Hover lawn mowers are based on the technology that drives hovercrafts. The turbine placed over the spinning blades drives air in the downward direction, forming an air cushion that raises the mower up. The mower continues to remain above ground level as long as the air cushion is present underneath it. With little or no friction owing to non-contact of the mower with the ground, moving the machine hardly requires any effort. The Hover lawn mower is essentially a lightweight machine, otherwise it will not be able to achieve the elevation required to operate. It has a plastic body and an electric motor. Small petrol engines have also been used to run the lawn mower.
Hover lawn mowers are versatile enough to work both on tall grass and shorter growth. The lightness of the machine coupled with the hovering action makes it easy for the user to lift the mower and bring it down as the tall grass is cut away.
